Ten Japanese Street Style Brands Now Available in the USA

If you are trendy and into hip street style fashion, you have most likely ran into this scenario quite a few times: You find something on the Internet that you just have to own, only to learn that it can't be purchased outside of one of the most chic street style fashion countries—Japan. This has probably given you quite a few facepalms too. However, if you’re desperate enough, you can track down a proxy service to buy it and ship it to you, but you'll have to break the bank to pay all the fees and charges.

Now, the good news! This fall, more than a few of the best popular brands out of Japan are arriving on American shores. This means you can buy all the dope exclusives right here in the States. So, check out our list of ten Japanese street style brands you can buy in the USA.

1. Beams Plus

Beams Plus is the in-house brand for the large Tokyo based department store, Beams. Like many of the brands on the list, it draws inspiration from OG American styles and other points of reference to create unique new pieces with close attention to detail and very good quality. In essence, whatever styles your grandfather wore back in the day is re-invented and makes it awesome to rock with today's styles.

2. Neighborhood

Masters of collections inspired by counter cultures, Neighborhood's most popular products have become its distressed denim offerings. The collections are usually a mix of “elements from motorcycles, military, outdoor, trad,” and more. Its collaboration with Supreme had people lining up around the block for hours. If you weren't one of those few, you might have come across pieces that ended up on eBay which were going for $900 - $1000+.

3. Bedwin and the Heartbreakers

Bedwin is a versatile brand that can mix it up with tailored preppy styles, rugged military looks, and simple street style staples like t-shirts and chinos. The brand brings detailed pieces done with quality craftsmanship to the table. Its collaborations with major brands have been widely successful, including the monster four-way collaboration between Beauty & Youth, Adidas, and Undefeated BBU.

4. Mt. Rainier Design

Originally an old school outdoor company, Mt. Rainier Design was defunct until it became licensed and revived by a Japanese company. If you’re shopping for high-tech outerwear and packs with old school designs, look no further. Mt. Rainier also provides some of the hippest 60/40 parkas out there.

5. Nanamica

Nanamica is the distributor of some serious functional and timeless gear from The North Face Purple Label, Filson, Eastpack, and more. Along with all the amazing products it carries, do not overlook its in-house label that holds its own amongst these top brands. Expect to see some stylish gear that makes use of some of the best technical fabrics out there. For the first time this fall season, the brand is being offered in the States.

6. White Mountaineering

Think awesome technical outerwear, mixed with high fashion street style, sprinkled with some native prints, and you have White Mountaineering in a bubble. It works on three principles: “design, utility, technology,” which they have perfected to keep them in contention as one of the “elite” brands. The brand’s designer Yosuke Aizawa worked under the tutelage of iconic designer Junya Watanabe, so you know you're investing in some serious pieces of clothing.

7. Sophnet

Along with F.C.R.B. and Uniform Experiment, Sophnet is one of the many brands designer Hirofumi Kiyanoga juggles which concentrates on “blending art and fashion.” The brand offers a wide range of products from tees to slippers. While camo was being put on every sportswear item, Sophnet switched it up and placed the go-to print on tailored items like button-ups and blazers.

8. Nexus VII

This brand has a knack of balancing vintage and contemporary clothing. Its collections vary widely in the materials it uses; whether it’s sourcing vintage fabrics to create a full line of products or incorporating modern fabrics like Gore-Tex and Windstopper to its pieces. Quality and authenticity are aspects customers have come to love about the brand.

9. Uniform Experiment

Led by pioneer of Japanese street style fashion, Hiroshi Fujiwara of Fragment Design and Hirofumi Kiyonaga of Sophnet, Uniform Experiment is one of the more well-known brands on the list. The brand is constantly reinventing itself by not staying on any particular trend, but still manages to keep its high-end street style clothing aesthetic. The brand has collaborated with some heavyweights that include Supreme, Carhartt, Fragment Design, and Nike to name a few.

10. Deluxe

The brand's style is influenced by the designer Hideki Kimura's three year stint living in NYC as well as his fascination with the 1950s, while also peppering in qualities of Tokyo street culture. Lately, the brand has been sticking to Jazz themes which have been making for some strong collections. Expect quality street style products with great tailoring and fit.
